Colorado Springs Custody Lawyer Reviews 50-50 Child Custody Schedules

When it comes to divorce and custody each family’s situation is different, but if your aim is to create a parenting plan that is a 50/50 split, then there are a number of ways to accomplish this.  The most important thing is to consider the best interest of the children in every possible way.  A Colorado Springs Child Custody Lawyer will help you design a parenting schedule that will take every factor into account, including work schedules, children’s activity schedules, distance between the parents’ homes and proximity to the child’s school.

There are several ways to divide your time so that parents can share time with their children equally.  Here are a few scenarios:

• The 3-4-4-3 schedule is when the children are with Parent “A” from Wednesday through Friday during Week One, and then Wednesday through Saturday in Week Two.  Parent “B” would have the children from Saturday through Tuesday in Week One and Sunday through Tuesday in Week Two.

• The 5-2-2-5 schedule is when the children are with Parent A every week on Monday and Tuesday, and Parent B every week on Wednesday and Thursday, with the weekend time (Friday through Sunday) being alternated between the parents.

These two schedules work well when the parents get along well and are able to share in the day-to-day routines of raising children, but it is challenging for the children, who never feel like they are really “home”.  Studies have shown that this type of custody arrangement can be very stressful for children, since their “stuff” is often somewhere else, and the rules change from one household to another.

In cases where weekday schedules are divided between two parents, it is not uncommon for the holidays and vacation time to be split as well.  During the summer, many parents opt for alternating weeks, allowing for larger blocks of time for each parent to schedule vacations.  Similarly, holidays are often shared by alternating between each parent every year.

Of course, these are just some examples of how other parents plan out their custody schedules.  But these can be adjusted and adapted to meet the needs of each family situation.  A Colorado Springs Custody Lawyer can help you develop a plan that will accommodate what is in the best interests of your children.
